Are you looking for the perfect blend of feminine and masculine?
I can see it now. You’re shopping for furniture with your husband. You have this vision of a beautiful design full of gorgeous details, textures, and color. And, your husband wants leather. Typical, right?
With a little imagination, there are always ways to compromise and combine any designs style or preferences!
This leather sofa from Restoration Hardware is the perfect solution! The distressed leather upholstery and tight back design is ideal for those who want something more practical and masculine. The English rolled arm and castered feet make this sofa a great choice for those who prefer a softer look.
This faux cowhide rug is a fun complement to the leather sofa. The lighter, caramel color warms up the color scheme and provides a nice contrast from the dark leather. For even more texture, layer this rug on top of a larger neutral area rug like a jute rug.
A big statement piece like this storage cabinet will take some of the focus off the big, dark leather sofa.
It offers lots of gorgeous, feminine details in the architectural moldings. The natural wood tones play off the color in rug and the warm gray sets the tone for the rest of the color scheme. Your leather-loving husband will appreciate the practicality of all the extra storage!
The light and airy design of this end table from Crate and Barrel helps to offset the heavier look of the storage cabinet and the sofa. To create balance in any design make sure to mix and match pieces that sit up on legs and some that anchor the room and go all the way to the floor.
I chose this fun artwork from Minted because of its simplicity. I wanted to add a pop color and an element of nature without taking the focus away from the main pieces of the room. If you already have 1 or 2 statement pieces in your design, look for simpler accessories and accents for balance.
Texture, texture, texture. It’s what gives a room personality! I’m obsessed with this marble and gold table lamp from Houzz. I wanted something a little heavier to sit on top of the glass table. The gold details pick up on the metal table, the floor lamp, and play off the natural wood tone in the cabinet.
I chose an all gold floor lamp from Houzz for warmth. The gold tone complements the metal base on the end table perfectly.
No room is complete without pillows!! The velvet pillow brings in a nice pop of color and adds an additional texture into the room. The floral pillow gives the room life, adds a touch of feminine on top of the leather, and the colors and pattern play perfectly off the artwork!
My favorite part of any design is mixing and matching pillow combinations. I tend to stick with neutrals for all my foundation pieces (sofa, accent furniture, rug, etc.) so you’re left with a classic and timeless look regardless of your accessories. This will make switching up your art and pillows super easy and will give the room a whole new look!
