Mood Board of the Month
Nothing says Summer more so than a calming blue color scheme and coastal decor.
We are spoiled living right on the coast in New England. Luckily as a designer, I get to indulge in lots of nautical design schemes. This is especially true in the summer when our clients are always looking to spruce up their beach homes and rentals.
So, this month I curated a mood board that was inspired by Summer’s arrival.
As always, I can’t help but to mix and match a variety of design styles together to give each mood board a cohesive yet unique look. This mood board features a mixture of bold mid-century accents with classic transitional pieces.
When it comes to interior design, mixing and matching is an art. I am careful to keep most of the main furniture items neutral, then I will add contrast with colorful accessories and accents.
A tailored track arm sofa is one of my go-to’s. It’s easy to work with and can be paired with almost any style. This sofa from Crate and Barrel is perfect for those who love to mix up their accessories.
Next, I found this gorgeous storage cabinet from Crate & Barrel. I love the detail, the simplicity of the shape, but more importantly the color. It adds the perfect amount of warmth and contrast to the design.
After the main furniture was chosen, I looked for some accents that would help me build a color scheme. A rug and artwork are great pieces that can tie a whole design together. The deep navy and subtle pattern of this rug is practical and contrasts the sofa perfectly.
I chose artwork added that had a little bit more of a whimsical feel and a nice punch of color. It gave me lots of different colors to work with and pull from.
I found this great floor lamp at Joss & Main. I love how it brings an element of industrial flair and plays off the dark hardware on the cabinet.
Next, I added in this white modern accent table. It’s a nice complement to the rest of the furniture but breaks up the linear lines and introduces a softer, more organic shape. I love the high contrast between the dark rug and the dark metal floor lamp.
I couldn’t pass up this beautiful table lamp. The punch of color is gorgeous against the neutral and darker tones. It picks up on the green in the artwork and adds lots of texture to the look.
Pillows, pillows, and more pillows! I wish I could put pillows everywhere! I wanted to keep the overall look light and modern but I also wanted to bring in something that would tie all the colors together. The first pillows I found were the blue and white ones to the right. I love the bright white background and the 2 shades of blue look perfect with the rug. Last, I added the floral pillows which had just the right hint of green/teal and still tied in some of the navy blue.
Now, if only I had my own vacation home…
