So, what’s the secret to a well-dressed bed? Layers, layers, and more layers! Follow along to learn how to make a beautifully layered bed with these easy bed-making tips and tricks.
get the look…
Before you dress your bed, outfit it in the nicest sheets your budget will allow (at least 300 thread count). For me, there’s nothing better than crisp white sheets because they look clean, fresh, and go with virtually any decor style.
Style tip: Once the fitted sheet has been placed, lay your flat sheet on top of your fitted sheet face down. That way, when you fold back the top sheet, the finished side will be facing up.
COMFORTER OR DUVET COVER
You can choose either a duvet or comforter. I prefer a down comforter with a duvet cover over it. Down is so soft, fluffy, and luxurious feeling. If you have allergies to down feathers, there are plenty of hypoallergenic down comforter alternatives on the market.
Style tip: Drape it over the bed so it’s even on all sides. If you prefer, you can pull the duvet cover all the way up or fold it down to expose your beautiful sheets.
This is another opportunity to add some color and texture to your bed. It’s also great to have another blanket to grab on those cold New England nights!
Style tip: Place the quilt so that it hangs evenly on both sides of the bed and fold it into thirds at the foot of your bed for a luxurious look (our personal favorite).
Every bed needs at least two pillows for sleeping and then some fun decorative pillows. Decorative pillows add depth. This is your opportunity to add a bold or interesting print to your bed. Choose a pattern and color that ties together other elements in your bedroom for a cohesive look.
Style tip: Here are additional ways to layer your pillows
– (2) Euro shams, large bolster, the length of the bed
–(2) Euro shams, (2) 25×25 square pillows
–A grouping of 16” to 20” decorative pillows (used in our design)
Not included in our design. However, throws add an additional layer of comforting and welcome appeal to your bedroom. They are another way to add more layers to your bedding design and tend to be cozy and soft.
Voila, a beautifully made bed!
