Mood Board of the month

This month’s mood board was inspired by that gorgeous blue rug below. With summer in full swing, I am in vacation mode. Which means I can’t get enough nautical and beach decor.

So, naturally, I was browsing through all my favorite “resort living” home decor stores and I stumbled across that guy and knew I needed to curate a design around it. Luckily these same stores offer plenty of other beachy accents like the limed mahogany accent chair, blue and white pillows, are more. This mood board of the month might just be one of my favorites.

SOFA

As always, after finding my inspiration piece(s), I start my mood board’s with the basics. I think this sofa is the perfect blend of classic and nautical with its clean lines and skirted base.

This sofa is from Kravet Inc. which is a to-the-trade only furniture manufacturer. If you aren’t working with a designer you can find a similar style at Pottery Barn. The overall look of the Pottery Barn sofa is similar but, beware the construction and quality are not comparable.

RUG

The inspiration piece for this mood board is from Dear Keaton. I love the traditional feel of the pattern mixed with a more contemporary color scheme of navy and teal. You may not be able to tell from this photo but there is also a sweet little fringe detail on the edges.

CONSOLE TABLE

Since I went light and neutral with my sofa choice I wanted to make sure I added some interest with a statement piece of furniture. This console from Stanley Furniture was just the piece I needed and brought in a lot of depth with the warm-gray wood tone. I absolutely love the way the “fish scale” pattern plays with the rug.

COCKTAIL OTTOMAN

Next, I wanted to anchor the space before choosing my other accent pieces. I found this leather ottoman at Williams Sonoma Home. I chose a dark distressed leather that contrasts nicely with the sofa and still stands out from the rug. The nailhead detail was an added bonus that brings in an additional level of sophistication.

VELVET ACCENT CHAIR

Velvet isn’t usually my first material choice when it comes to nautical or coastal designs. However, I loved the modern details and the color of this chair from Anthropologie. The washed wood legs helped me transition in some lighter pieces like the armchair below.

WASHED LIME MAHOGANY CHAIR

If you can’t fit more than one full sized accent chair in your space, consider a dining chair! Just like this chair with the limed mahogany wood and caning back, bringing in a non-upholstered chair can add a lot of dimension to a space. I found this little gem at Dear Keaton as well.

ACCENT TABLES

Almost everything else in the design is square, rectangular, or has straight lines. So, I softened the look with a couple of round end tables. The metal accent table is from Houzz and adds a new texture to the space. The black and white round table is from Layla Grace. The black metal legs help to tie in the ottoman.

ARTWORK

This artwork is from Minted. The colors worked perfectly for tying the whole space together, plus the horse is just stunning!

TABLE LAMP

Another great find from Dear Keaton, I couldn’t pass up this lamp. The stripes add to the nautical feel and the navy, white, and light wood tone brought 3 of the main colors of the space together.

PILLOWS

This fun pillow pairing brought in some much-needed pattern and brightness! Aside from the rug most of the items in this design are solid or textured. The blue and white dot pillow from Etsy brightens up the overall look. For the finishing touch, the mudcloth pillows from Studio McGee are the perfect pop of blue with a modern twist.
